One of my all-time favorite summer night activities is going to a drive-in theater. Somehow, seeing a classic or a new movie out there is extra fun. I wanted to create a similar feeling in our backyard and thought it would be fun to share how it turned out so that you can create your own backyard movie night!
The most important thing I think is that it doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t have to buy a lot. I bought my house for basically everything here. I pulled mattresses from bunk beds, grabbed pillows and blankets from pretty much every room, and any extra sheets. You could use sleeping bags or even just blankets and lounge chairs! You also need some kind of projector. I used the one I have for decorating cookies, but this one has a lot of great reviews. There are also tutorials online to help you make your own version.
To build the “tent”, I put two dowel rods together with dowel screws and used my favorite power tool – the push pin (ha!). The push pin held the draped sheet in place. 🙂 I love using pins because the holes are minimal, it feels less permanent, and it doesn’t damage the leaves. I again used pins on the sheet I pinned to the deck to make a screen. You can also thread a rope or put it on a fence, since you just want to stretch it as tightly as possible for a flat panel display.
What’s a movie night without all that popcorn and candy, am I right? To make the board, I grabbed a few of our favorite family snacks and played around with how it would sit on the boards. And here is a link to our popcorn bowls.
We look at the new Space Jam, but started with the original because I don’t think you can watch a new version of a movie without seeing the classic first! It is the same with books that are made into a film; I always have to read the original before I see it! All other 90s Space Jam Fans out there?Hope you enjoy these last few weeks of summer creating your own backyard movie night! xo, Claire
PS My romper is the same one Laura has in a different color! Once she shared how convenient it was, it was sure to be an “add to cart” situation!
