Striking, scrumptious and sweet, figs are a wonderful addition to the seasonal food calendar once late summer comes around.

Typically in season from mid-August to November in the UK, you can tell these succulent little fruits are ready by giving them a gentle squeeze; if they feel slightly soft, they’re ripe for the picking! With a naturally high sugar content, figs pair beautifully with salty, savoury foods, such as prosciutto or Parma ham – the iconic Italian combo. You can also celebrate their natural sweetness in desserts, cakes and tarts, or simply quartered and served with yoghurt and granola for breakfast.

For more inspiration, check out our fabulous fig recipes.

Inspired by the classic Italian combo, these little canapé forkfuls are sure to get people talking. Delicious with a glass of crisp white wine or bubbly

Whole roasted ricotta with honeyed figs

Sticky, sweet figs go so well with baked cheese. Feel free to swap in Camembert, or even a block of feta for a more summery vibe.

Sticky cinnamon fig & yoghurt breakfast bowls

Start your day right with these epic fig breakfast bowls. Enjoy the roasted fruit warm, or prep ahead for an easy-to-assemble breakfast on the go.

Crostini - prosciutto, figs and mint

Having a speedy starter up your sleeve is a wonderful thing, and this fig-focused crostini totally delivers. Fresh mint, salty prosciutto and sweet figs? Yes, please!

Figs in honey

Baked until they take on a wonderful wine-gummy texture, these semi-dehydrated figs are a festive favourite for a reason. Pop them on a cheese board, add them to a sticky toffee pud, or even roast them with pork or chicken!

The easiest sexiest salad in the world

An oldie but a goodie, this is a beautifully elegant fig salad recipe. Criss-cross them before you add the dressing to ensure they’re seasoned to perfection (it creates a pretty centrepiece, too).

Figgy banana bread

Rather than adding sugar, this banana bread recipe makes the most of the natural sweetness of figs. Paired with juicy blood oranges, nut butter and natural yoghurt, it’s the perfect afternoon tea treat.

Figs with pine nuts & goat’s curd

Ridiculously easy and so impressive-looking, these fig canapés are a great start to any dinner party. Just 5 ingredients and ready in 10 minutes, what’s not to like?

Almond tart with figs

Creamy, sweet frangipane topped with deliciously ripe figs and baked until beautifully golden. Lovely with a dollop of natural yoghurt or a scoop of quality vanilla ice cream on the side.

Spiced chocolate & dried fig Christmas cake

Go all out with this figgy festive cake. Complete with the glossiest chocolate glaze, it’s sure to go down a treat at Christmas time.
