Fifteen Grammy Béla Fleck will be released on September 10, 2021 My bluegrass heart. It’s Fleck’s first bluegrass album in two decades and features the banjo innovator alongside Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile, Molly Tuttle, David Grisman, Bryan Sutton, Sierra Hull and Billy Strings. For those of us who have worn out our copies of journey, it’s kind of a welcome homecoming … and it’s worth the wait.
“People asked me: ‘Is there pure bluegrass on this album?’” Says Fleck. “This tune was recorded for that very reason. We premiered it at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival with the House Band. The album version contains Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull and was originally called “Seasick in the Mountains”. Did you drive these mountain roads? I love how it turned out. “
The fretboard diary sat down with Fleck for a detailed interview about the album, which was written by Tristan Scroggins. In the meantime, enjoy the video premiere of “Wheels Up,” in which Fleck jams with Sierra Hull, Michael Cleveland, Mark Schatz, Justin Moses and Bryan Sutton. It was recorded on the Farmette in Lyons, Colorado in July 2021.
