Today’s session comes from emerging artist Katie Grace Harris, accompanied by Alex Duncalf on cello, and her version of the 19th century song ‘Hard Times’.
Katie traces her folk roots to singing along as a girl with her Dad as they drove around in the rusty family Triumph Toledo. ‘We would sing songs from Joni Mitchell, The Spinners, Ralph McTell and James Taylor.’ These early experiences clearly influenced her own musical sound. Her repertoire ranges from gentle new arrangements of traditional songs alongside raw and exposed original compositions. As well as piano, you’ll find Katie playing the accordion (look out for this with her 2nd session track), Shruti and a home-made chess board stomp box.
Katie’s Debut album “The Toledo Sessions” will be released in spring 2022. It includes two songs developed in collaboration with Reg Meuross and features musical contributions from Phil Beer, Odette Michell and Lukas Drinkwater.
