Just in time for the holidays, you can make your own ornaments and gift tags out of oven clay!
Oven baking clay is a quick and easy way to make ornaments in almost any shape you want (just use cookie cutters!).
Is there a tone that is best for clay ornaments?
As long as you’re using a clay that eventually hardens you should be fine. However, if you choose a firmer oven clay instead of a soft, air-dried clay, you can roll it out smoother and get cleaner edges with your cookie cutter.
Deliveries:
-Oven bake clay (we love this one!)
– rolling pin
-Baker’s twine (I also love colored baker’s twine for it!)
–Acrylic paint, puff paint, stamps and ink or colored pencils
-Cutters
-a straw
-Paint brush
Start by rolling out your clay into a thin, even sheet (about 5/8 of an inch thick). Use your cookie cutters to cut out shapes of different sizes.
You can make whatever cookie cutter you have in your closet!
Next, use a straw to poke holes in the tops of all of your ornaments.

Bake according to the instructions on the package. If you’re using the original Sculpey oven clay, it should be on a glass plate or bowl and bake at 275 ° F for 15 minutes for every ¼ inch of clay thickness.
After you’ve baked the clay and let the ornaments cool, it’s time to design to your heart’s content! Finish the ornaments with baker’s twine or some other thin ribbon or twine.
I made mine with paint, stamps, and some glitter puff paint, but you can also use black and white paints and crayons like our friend Kelli did.

The smaller ornaments are great as personalized gift tags on a gift box and the larger ones are perfect for decorating your Christmas tree!
If you want a handmade clay ornament but don’t have time to make your own, you can buy one and support small businesses here instead!
Kelli sells her art on her Etsy shop too, so check out her adorable items and don’t forget that we also have a treasure trove of fun Christmas DIYs and recipes for you to find inspiration.
Have fun doing it yourself! xo. Laura
