Former Alabama quarterback Jay Barker, who is married to country singer Sara Evans, was arrested Saturday (Jan. 15) on charges of domestic violence, Tennessee authorities said.
Barker, 49, was booked into a Nashville County jail early Saturday morning, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office website. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and has been placed on $10,000 bail with a 12-hour sentence because it was a domestic violence case. He was released Saturday night after posting bail.
Investigators did not immediately respond to a call The Associated Press Request case details. Barker didn’t answer a call from the AP and it was not immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment.
Barker is a sports radio talk show host in Birmingham, Alabama. He led Alabama to the 1992 national championship. He won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award for the nation’s top high school student at that position and finished fifth in the 1994 Heisman Trophy pick.
Barker led Alabama to a 35-2-1 record as the starting quarterback.
