I’ll be the first to admit that this is as basic as it gets. But I’ve always wondered how restaurants make their toast. Am I alone with this? It just tastes better/different than when I use my toaster at home.
I figured it was probably the amount of butter and I shouldn’t ask any more, but then I got an air fryer.
Admittedly, I fell in love with the air fryer late in life. I had jumped on the instant pot trend and used it twice in an entire year before donating it. Yes I know they can be amazing but it’s just not for me!
So buying another seemingly trendy large countertop appliance didn’t sound like something I would do.
So what has changed? My mom has one! And she let me use hers. Now I have the same air fryer as Emma and it’s the most popular appliance in my kitchen… well… next to the coffee pot.
My sweet mama also gets full credit for discovering that you can make delicious toast in the air fryer. Her toaster broke so she did some research to see if you could make toast in an air fryer. And you can!
Full disclosure: I’ll probably keep my toaster, but I think this is a nice alternative, and if I want to make specialty toast at the weekend, it’s the best way to do it!
You can’t just pop a piece of toast with a spread in the toaster without making a complete mess.
tips
- Don’t forget to preheat your air fryer. Mine takes 2-3 minutes to preheat, but that depends on what type of air fryer you’re using. Some also have a notification when they’re ready.
- Butter the bread. This is important so that your toast doesn’t get really dry.
- watch your time I keep my 3 minutes in the air fryer, but if you like it crispier you might want to adjust a bit.
- type of bread. Different types of bread also affect the baking time.
- toppings. I wouldn’t air fry fresh produce, but things like butter, almond butter, and honey add flavor to the toast!
topping suggestions
- cinnamon sugar. Put this combination on your toast before putting the bread in the air fryer. Oh my god, is that delicious!
- Avocado toast with Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel seasoning (why yes, I’m a millennial).
- Almond butter with sea salt
- Almond or peanut butter with bananas and honey

This is such an easy way to make delicious toast that tastes like it came from your favorite restaurant.

Preheat your air fryer to 300°F. My air fryer usually takes 2-3 minutes to preheat, but follow the manufacturer’s instructions as they vary depending on the type and size of air fryer you are using.
-
Butter your toast and add any additional toppings (optional) you wish to bake with the bread.
-
Set the timer or leave the toast in the air fryer for about 3 minutes. Check the toast to see if it’s the desired level of baking, adding additional time if necessary.
