These golden, baked fries are perfectly crispy without the mess of deep-frying! Tossed with oil and tasty Italian herbs, these are sure to become a new family favorite!

Skip the takeout and make amazing fries from the comfort of your home! Try my air fryer french fries, sweet potato fries, and baked zucchini fries next! Not only are they all amazingly crispy and delicious, but healthy, too!

Best-Ever Baked Fries Recipe

My family is pretty fry-obsessed. We like ’em hot and crispy served with all the dipping sauces. Our go-to is usually air fryer fries but this baked version is giving them a run for their money! Honestly, you wouldn’t think that baking them would make them so amazing, but this recipe is a game-changer! You get all the crunch and flavor minus the hassle and calories of frying them in oil. It’s a healthy way to get in your fry fix. Also, it’s the perfect side for a juicy burger!

I use russet potatoes here, tossed with yummy Italian seasoning and olive oil which helps them get nice and crispy in the oven. This is one recipe you don’t want to miss! Each bite is so golden and flavorful. Pair them with some homemade fry sauce and I assure you they won’t be around for long! These baked fries are definitely one of my new favorite snacks. Easy, healthy, and delicious, as snacks should be!

Ingredients for Baked Fries

As long as you’ve got potatoes on hand, chances are you’ve got everything else needed for these amazing fries. This ingredient list is nice and simple but comes together to create something soooo good! As always, individual measurements can be found in the recipe card below!

  • Russet Potatoes: Russet potatoes have a thick skin (great for crisping) and low moisture content which makes them perfect for fries.
  • Olive Oil: The high smoke point of olive oil makes your fries nice and crispy! Adds a great flavor, too.
  • Italian Seasoning: You can’t go wrong tossing your fries in tasty herbs! Find my recipe here for my favorite blend of basil, thyme, oregano, marjoram, and rosemary.
  • Parmesan: Adds a cheesy pop of flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper: Add to taste! You can even use flaked sea salt for a bit of extra texture.

Making Your Fries

These baked fries come together in a snap. With how crazy easy they are, you’ll want to make them again and again! They only have a few minutes of prep time. It’s the perfect thing to make for your family on the fly!

  1. Preheat Oven, Prep Potatoes: Let’s start! First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice the potato using a fry cutter or slice into ¼ inch strips. Then, rinse in cold water and pat dry with paper towel.
  2. Toss: In a medium-sized bowl, toss with olive oil, Italian seasoning, parmesan, salt and pepper.
  3. Bake: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the fries in an even layer on the baking sheet. Next, bake for 20 minutes and then flip. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until golden and crisp.
  4. Serve: All done! Now it’s time to enjoy your fries with your favorite sauce.

Guide to Making the Best Fries

Since we’re not deep frying here, I’ve compiled a few tips to help you achieve the same result! Once you craft your perfect fry at home, you won’t want to pay for takeout!

  • Rinse: Rinsing your fries in cold water helps to remove excess starch, preparing them to be as crispy as possible!
  • Pat Dry: Don’t skip this step! The higher the water content, the more likely your fries are to be soggy. I like to pat them dry with paper towels. This way, I can see how much water is removed each time.
  • Seasonings: Looking to kick up the heat? Try tossing your fries in Cajun seasoning instead! Lemon pepper is also one of my favorite variations. It makes your fries so zesty!
  • Sauces: Sure, ketchup is great, but level-up your fry game with some tasty fry sauce, copycat Chick-fil-A sauce, BBQ, or even cheese sauce for an indulgent twist!

Storing Leftovers

Although they’re best served fresh, your baked fries can be enjoyed a few days later with proper storage. It’s a quick and tasty snack!

  • In the Refrigerator: In an airtight container, your baked fries will keep for up to 5 days.
  • In the Freezer: These fries can be stored in a freezer bag for 3-4 months. The great thing is, frozen fries can go straight to the oven or air fryer. I make my fries in bulk so I can enjoy them later. Your future self will thank you!
  • Reheating: To keep your fries nice and crispy, reheat them in the oven for 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also pop them in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 375 degrees.

More Tried and True Potato Recipes

I’m a sucker for potatoes in every form. Here are a few of my favorite recipes, ready to give you that carb indulgence you crave! They’re super easy to put together, but so buttery and delicious. Whether you serve them as a side or on their own, they’ll be a hit! I’m sure you’ll love these as much as I do!

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Slice the potato using a fry cutter or slice into ¼ inch strips. Rinse in cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.
  • In a medium sized bowl toss with olive oil, Italian seasoning, parmesan, salt and pepper.

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the fries in an even layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes and then flip. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until golden and crisp.
