Disney fans will have plenty to choose from during the Animated Art Signature Auction February 4-7 at Heritage Auctions. The four-day event features nearly 1,300 Disney-related lots, including an extraordinarily rare production cel of Mickey Mouse from Shanghaied , a short film released in 1934 which is considered the “Holy Grail” for Disney animation collectors.
Here are a sampling of items available during the Animated Art Signature Auction :
Directed by Burt Gillett, the theatrical short “Shanghaied” sees Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse captured on the ship of the ruthless pirate captain Peg-Leg Pete. Released January 13, 1934, the black-and-white production cel is considered by many as the “Holy Grail” for Disney animation collectors.

This impressive production cel setup features all four main characters of the 1953 Disney feature film “Peter Pan” . Peter Pan flies above the floor of the Darling children’s nursery in a spectacularly large image measuring 9 inches. Wendy and Michael float through the air of the nursery with their newly-gained powers of flight, while John dons his top hat and umbrella so he looks presentable upon his arrival. This wonderful setup is composed of four original, hand-painted, hand-inked cels that have been trimmed to image.

This fantastic concept painting for “Cinderella” is by the wonderfully talented Mary Blair , one of Walt Disney’s favorite artists. Blair (1911 – 1978) is one of the primary reasons for the stunning visual style of Cinderella, and her beautiful, colorful concept paintings intricately shaped the characters, settings, and sequences of the film.

Robin Hood and Little John sneak around the castle grounds in an attempt to break Friar Tuck out of jail in this hand-painted original production cel from the animated feature film “Robin Hood” (1973).
