Steve Dawson wears many hats: he’s an in-demand producer/engineer, a podcaster (check out his Music Makers and Soul Shakers podcast if you haven’t already…he’s awesome), and a seven-time Juno Award-winning musician .
When we heard that Dawson was releasing a new album on March 18th (his first of three for 2022!), we needed to hear more. The Fretboard Journal is proud to announce the premiere of “Bad Omen”, the new single from Gone, long gone for our readers.
“It grew out of a riff I wrote during a sound check with Birds of Chicago and stumbled across a voice memo a few years later,” says Dawson of the tune. “It is played on my Weißenborn lap steel guitar. It sounded dark and ominous and has similar bad luck issues as Stevie Wonder’s “superstition”. For this live version, I took a day to play some of the new songs at The Studio Nashville with Dennis Crouch (Robert Plant/Allison Krauss, T-Bone Burnett), Jen Gunderman (Sheryl Crow) and Justin Amaral .”
