We’ve been waiting at home for the trip for a long time, but we finally think it’s time to go out and discover the world again. Dave and I have kept our travel to a minimum over the past two years, but in 2022 we plan to see the world again and prepare to interact with those around us. A good starting point is our neighbor to the north – Alaska! As one of our first trips in 2022, an Alaskan cruise is on our itinerary and we don’t want to be the only ones on board for this opportunity to share with you.

With pristine wilderness, glaciers and vast bays only accessible by boat, a cruise to Alaska is the best way to explore America’s largest state.
We don’t often share freebies, but it’s no secret We loved our Holland America cruise through the South Pacific. Every time someone asks us about our time on MS Amsterdam, we rave about the three glorious weeks we’ve had of great food, world-class entertainment and awe-inspiring locations. In fact, we liked it so much that we’ll be joining them again in Alaska. Wouldn’t it be cool if we were on the same cruise?

Dear Alaska – Our love letter
Dear Alaska, In 2011 we visited you for the first time and marveled at your beautiful landscape. We’ve always dreamed of going there one day and can’t believe we’ve had the privilege of returning once more to witness one of the final frontiers of adventure travel. It’s been almost three years since we were last in your presence but I can still hear the sound of ice falling from John’s Hopkins Glacier as the waves pounded our tiny Zodiac floating in the ice-filled waters of the… inlet sat.
You left us memories to last a lifetime with so many firsts. On your coast we saw our first grizzly bear in the wild and it was the first time we saw a whale tail breaching the sea. They let us experience the land of the midnight sun for the first time and gave us the opportunity to fly over the highest mountain in North America. Every travel experience we have is compared to our travels through Alaska. You are the final frontier. The wild unknown and a land that captivates our imagination. With every visit we discover something new, add new “firsts” to our list and create new memories. Alaska you are beautiful and I wish everyone could see you too.

Dear Alaska – Our Poem
So I’m not a poet, but I’ve put together my own little verses to inspire you. Hopefully this gives you some ideas for writing your own. (I’m sure it will be better than mine)
Ode to Alaska
It is teeming with life on both land and sea
The untamed beauty is calling me.
The snowy land of the midnight sun,
Our great adventure has only just begun.
Was that a bear I saw on the shore?
Did a bald eagle soar in the air?
I’ve never had these moments
The beauty of Alaska is more than I can take.

Holland America in Alaska
In 2022, six Halland America Line ships will explore Alaska. You can combine your cruise with an inland leg to Denali National Park or the Yukon in Canada. Trips are round-trip departures from Seattle, Washington or Vancouver, BC.
We cruised with Holland American and can attest that their ships provide a first class experience. Each cruise visits at least one of Alaska’s glacial destinations, such as Glacier Bay National Park and Hubbard Glacier. They also stop at the ports of Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway and Stika. Everyone has their own unique flair and adventure to experience.
We have taken two Alaska cruises on a small ship, large ship and land and thoroughly enjoyed each experience. Even if you don’t win the contest, we strongly encourage you to put Alaska at the top of your travel wish list.
