What could be more refreshing than a good beer after a day of discovery in Gaspésie? Here are 5 microbreweries where you can take a delicious hop break during your vacation.
The Ketch, Sainte-Flavie
Located by the sea in the village of Sainte-Flavie, at the entrance to Gaspésie, Le Ketch microbrewery invites you to discover its beers in a maritime atmosphere. Near its sign, you will see a real ketch, a type of sailboat with two mahogany and oak masts. On site, you will find a tasty selection of beers incorporating local products, such as hops from Maria and honey from the Vieux-Moulin (Sainte-Flavie). On the terrace, you will enjoy a superb view of the St. Lawrence River and the beach, where the sandrye grows. Imagine the sunsets!
La Fabrique, Matane
The craft brewery La Fabrique offers a selection of 25 beers brewed on site or by guest microbreweries, chosen with care. You will find classic beers, others developed according to the seasons and brewing experiences, as well as beers aged in oak barrels. La Fabrique has a large garage door overlooking Saint-Jérôme Avenue, which is Matane’s main artery, along the edge of which is a pretty terrace in summer.
Le Malbord Microbrewery, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts
It was La Collin, an Irish red beer, that first made Le Malbord famous. Inspired by Léon Collin, a professional fisherman from Tourelle and occasional storyteller, this beer introduces you to the unique character of Haute-Gaspésie. In addition to La Collin, Le Malbord produces several other craft beers with a refined taste, inspired by the riches of the terroir, in addition to serving beers from guest microbreweries that change over the weeks. Housed in a former grocery store, Le Malbord proudly revives a heritage building in the heart of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, a stone’s throw from a seaside promenade.
Pit Caribou Microbrewery, Percé
Brewed near the picturesque fishing port of L’Anse-à-Beaufils, Pit Caribou’s quality beers rely on Gaspé resources. To taste them, you can take a seat on the terrace of the microbrewery, with a view of the sea and a pretty fishing port. Pit Caribou also has a pub with a terrace in Percé, on the main street. Its beers come in many varieties: classics, spontaneous, limited editions and barrel beers. Take advantage of your presence on site to discover what is offered to you exclusively! To see the variety of beers offered and target beers based on your preferences, you can try the “Your Taste Profile” tool on the company’s website.
Microbrewery Le Naufrageur, Carleton-sur-Mer
Making it a point of honor to use the best ingredients available, as locally as possible, Le Naufrageur offers more than twenty tasty, unique and creative high-quality beers. Some are even made from seawater! Those who like beer less will be delighted to taste the Sizz, a hard seltzer artisanal strawberry and mint brewed on site. Great novelty for the summer of 2022: you can taste Le Naufrageur’s products at its restaurant with sea view and terrace, which will take place in the former Le Héron restaurant, in the heart of Carleton-sur-Mer and a few steps from the microbrewery.
The five microbreweries mentioned are also part of the Est-du-Québec Beer Route, a group of 18 microbreweries from the Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie and Îles-de-la-Madeleine who join together to offer you a local beer tasting tour. Together, they offer more than a hundred products with unique aromas. Meet their brewers to learn more about their trade and their methods! You will then taste with even more satisfaction the fruit of their work, reflecting their terroir.
Note that all the microbreweries in question not only offer their beers on tap, but also in bottles or cans. You can easily transport them for your picnics, aperitifs and evenings by the fire, and even stock up to taste Gaspésie again once at home.
