Ann Wilson has some Fierce Blissher solo album from 2022, for all of us. From the opener “Greed” to the zeppelin-esque “Black Wing” to deep originals and sailing covers, we get plenty of ferocity from the Heart singer. Along with members of her touring band, The Amazing Dawgs, Wilson enlisted some well-known guests to help develop the album. Their renditions of Robin Trower’s “Bridge Of Sighs” and The Eurythmics’ “Missionary Man” feature Kenny Wayne Shepherd on lead guitar, while Queen’s “Love Of My Life” has the leading lady in a duet with Vince Gill.
Guitarist Warren Haynes, who runs his own Outfit Govt. Mule, rolls under the epic centerpiece “Gladiator”. If that doesn’t sound like classic Heart, it doesn’t here. Haynes also joins her on the dangerously slow blues of Angel’s Blues. If you ever needed an example of how this guy can shake the sky, this is it! Connected by Govt. Mule drummer Matt Abts, Haynes also produced these two tracks.
Ann Wilson says she wants to explore music in new ways, while claiming her sister Nancy is doing a good job of breaking down Heart’s legacy. Filled with really solid stuff and awesome players, Fierce Bliss is definitely a heavier and bluesy collection than you would expect from Heart. Sprinkle in album covers from famous artists Roger Deanand this record is something you should check out.
