The Fretboard Journal is proud to present the latest video from the Slocan Ramblers. Watch the Canadian bluegrass ensemble perform a stunning version of “Bring Me Down Low” from their new album. Up the hill and through the fog.
“As a personal challenge, I try to write straight forward bluegrass songs that sound classic but not cliche,” Frank Evans explains of this track. “I’m trying to fit my own voice in without it sounding too contemporary, and ‘Bring Me Down Low’ came out of that prompt. The Hook was once again directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as my feelings vacillated between joyous optimism, crippling depression, and everything in between. That was the first song we cut in the studio. It originally had a tightly arranged ending, but as we got levels we got so excited to play together that we couldn’t bring ourselves to finish the jam. What you’re hearing is a little taste of how much fun we’ve had playing together after such a long time.”
