What is a ribbon wreath?
A ribbon wreath is a quick and easy way to make a wreath as you just cut strips of ribbon and simply tie them to a wreath frame.
You can customize it with any colors to reflect holidays and seasons, and you can also add custom accents to stick on the wreath.
Deliveries:
Step 1: Paint your wreath. Divide your wreath into three even sections (you can just see it with your eyes) and paint them red, white, and blue so you don’t see any gaps between the ribbons once you start tying them.
If your wreath frame is white, you don’t need to paint the white, and you’ll probably need two coats to get a more opaque coverage.
Step 2: Tie your first round of ribbons. Cut your red ribbons into 14″ long strips and tie them around your wreath frame, tying them in a knot on the outer edge of the wreath. Repeat until you’ve tied the ribbon all the way down into your red area.
My ribbon spools were 21′ long and I only used a little more than one spool per color. So if you want to keep it on one roll at a time, cut them a little shorter or spread them out a little more.
Step 3: Fill in between each band with a different band. Now that you’ve tied your first round, cut and tie a second round of red ribbon between each ribbon, filling the section and making it look fuller.
Step 4: Repeat with your blue and white ribbons. Cut more 14 inch ribbons with your white and blue colors and repeat the process of tying a row that just touches and then another row in between what you did to fill in the gaps.
Note: You will see that grosgrain ribbon tends to fray at the edges after cutting. So if that bothers you, you can run some fray check down the end, or cut the ribbons at an angle to minimize fraying, or use a ribbon that doesn’t fray as easily as a velvet option.
Step 5: Add your white stars! Paint your wooden star accents white and hot glue them to the red and blue parts of your bow wreath.
Step 6: Add a hanging loop. Thread some twine or wire through the back of the middle ribbon in the blue section and tie a loop so you have something to hang your wreath from.
Now your 4th of July wreath is ready to hang!
