Shania Twain will be the focus of an upcoming documentary, Not just a girldirected by Joss Crowley and produced by Mercury Studios.
The documentary, which premieres July 26 on Netflix, will chronicle Twain’s childhood in Timmins, Ontario and her journey to becoming one of the best-selling artists in music history.
“Taking the risk of doing things your way can be scary,” Twain says in the trailer, which was released Wednesday (July 20). “You have to be brave.”
The documentary follows their first label signing, their groundbreaking album the woman in meher achievements in winning three consecutive diamond certified albums and the genesis of her signature project come over, which Twain further cemented as a global phenomenon and has sold over 20 million units to date. The film also follows Twain through the failure of her marriage to producer Robert “Mutt” Lange as she struggles to regain her voice, and transports fans to the present amid the recording of the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming sixth album.
The documentary will feature guest appearances by Orville Peck, Lionel Richie, Diplo, Kelsea Ballerini and Avril Lavigne.
“She was the first person to break down that door and cross genres of music. She was that trailblazer,” says Richie in the trailer.
An 18-track companion compilation album, Not Just a Girl (The Highlights), will be released via Mercury Nashville/UMe and features a new bonus title track and several of Twain’s greatest hits including “From This Moment On” and “Love Gets Me Every Time”.

In addition to the forthcoming documentary, Twain will be hailed with the Poet’s Award during the upcoming ACM Honors and will helm the Boots and Hearts Festival in Canada on August 7th.
