Our Chicago Fretboard Summit was full of highlights. Among them was TJ Thompson’s return to the stage for another stunning talk on following your heart, vintage guitar restoration and more.
During this 90-minute session, the celebrated pre-war Martin guitar expert offered a bit of everything: Sage advice for new instrument builders; Insights on how to protect the value of your acoustic guitars; life hacks we can all learn from; and even a little Bierkoozie philosophy lesson. Towards the end of his session, TJ had some quick tips for fellow luthiers. Some have benefited from a visual reference, so we’ve posted the video excerpts on our YouTube channel:
It’s an unfiltered and candid performance from one of the finest in the guitar world.
For his presentation, Thompson invited his friends and clients David Ziegele and Al Drewes to the stage. You’ll occasionally hear them interject and share their own personal experiences with vintage guitars. Apologies for the lav mic noise; We’ve done our best to reduce it. Recorded live on August 27, 2022 in the Maurersaal in the old town.
Fretboard Summit returns August 24-26, 2023 at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. We will be releasing information on ticket sales soon.
