A slick bed of percussion, sparkling acoustics and a spoken-word intro of “Dawn Of Time” flow straight into Joe Bonamassa’s single, sailing Les Paul notes on “Notches,” opening the live stories of the time Sentence. The show, available on vinyl, CD, DVD and Blu-ray Disc, features Bonamassa and his seven-piece band performing at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater in August 2022.
Grammy-nominated Bonamassa presents his own songs time clocks The album was released in 2021, and the guitar master and his band flip back and forth between blues-rock slang, with plenty of organ, backing vocals and the main riff-maker pervading it all. Bonamassa can rock hard like he does on “Curtain Call” as well as throw down country licks on the centerpiece “Time Clocks.”
The visual side of this collection features more music and stunning camerawork, with sweeping shots across the back of Red Rocks’ natural space on the stage side to center from around the 10th row. Bonamassa stands out, his fingers doing the pyrotechnics more than all the stage antics. There is a seamless connection between the guitarist and his band stories of the time Feel more like the work of a fully functioning band than that of a master guitarist with a group of supporters. For Bonamassa, the key to a cohesive musical experience is to position yourself on the same level as the other players.
