The Fretboard Journal is proud to premiere Nathan Graham’s new video for “Somebody Else,” off of his forthcoming full-length debut, Saint of Second Chances (out October 20, 2023).
We first learned of the Chicago-based singer-songwriter through rave reviews from our friends at the Old Town School of Folk Music. We eventually asked Nathan to open for Tommy Emmanuel at our 2023 Fretboard Summit. He delivered such a rousing performance that Tommy himself brought him back up for a bow as the show was wrapping up. It was a beautiful and richly-deserved moment.
When asked about this track, Graham explains, “‘Somebody Else’is not a relationship song. Well, not in the traditional way. I wrote this to personify the relationship between a person and their art and the success they would like to have in it. It’s that pull to keep going and one day you will catch up with your dreams. ‘Sick of waiting on your call’ plays on the old saying of ‘when success calls will you answer it?’ Chasing a dream can sometimes feel like chasing a person that leads you on.”
