Six-part series will offer a glimpse at the GOAT’s short but incredibly impactful time at Inter Miami CF so far
Lionel Messi’s blockbuster first season in Major League Soccer will get the documentary it deserves with Messi Meets America set to debut on Oct. 11 on Apple TV+.
The new six-episode series will chronicle the GOAT’s short but remarkable stint at Inter Miami CF so far (he only joined the team a few months ago). A new short teaser for the docuseries features highlights from Messi’s run with the team, testimonials from former soccer star and Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham, and a quote from Messi himself: “My happiness has always been playing football, and now I can continue doing it here.”
Messi joined Inter Miami in July, arriving on the heels of his historic World Cup win with Argentina. Notably, when Messi joined, Inter Miami was having a dreadful season, with only five wins (and three draws) in their first 22 matches. The Messi effect, however, was quite literally immediate: In his first game, he scored a game-winning goal in the 94th minute to lift Inter Miami over the Liga MX’s Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup competition (which Miami went on to win a few weeks later).
Messi’s arrival also helped spark a bit of a turnaround for Inter Miami in the MLS when the league resumed in late August after its summer break. But the good vibes have taken a hit in recent weeks, with Messi missing four of Inter Miami’s last five games with a leg injury. The injury comes as Inter Miami tries to come from behind and snag one of the final MLS playoff spots with only four games remaining. It’s still unclear when — or if — Messi will be able to return to the team.
