Very few stars have risen as fast or burned as bright as Britney Spears in the late ’90s, becoming an icon almost as soon as she dropped her debut single “…Baby One More Time.” But hey, that’s Britney, b–ch.
The Mississippi-born, Louisiana-bred artist’s first-ever track skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 just a couple months after it entered the chart in 1998, the first of several Spears hits to top the tally over the course of her career. Her debut album, also titled …Baby One More Time, went on to rule the Billboard 200 for six weeks, securing her the title of Princess of Pop before she was even a legal adult.
In the years to come, the Mickey Mouse Club alum would continue releasing smashes, such as “Oops!…I Did it Again,” “Toxic” and “Gimme More.” Even after control of her affairs was assigned to her father, Jamie Spears, in 2008, the star was able to deliver Circus and Femme Fatale, her fifth and sixth No. 1 albums, before eventually breaking from music after dropping Glory in 2016.
Now that her conservatorship has been terminated, fans are eager to see a grand return to the pop charts for Spears (something she got a taste of by hopping on Elton John’s “Hold Me Closer” in 2022). In the meantime, keep reading to see the superstar’s 20 biggest hits on the Hot 100 so far.
Britney Spears’ Biggest Billboard Hot 100 Hits ranking is based on weekly performance on the Hot 100 through the charts dated March 16, 2024. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower spots earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates during various periods.
