Why is it called a Fuzzy Navel?
The “fuzzy” part of the name comes from the hairy skin on the outside of a peach, and the “navel” part comes from the navel of an orange to create this drink’s less-than-serious name.
What’s the origins of a Fuzzy Navel?
The Fuzzy Navel got its start in the 1980s after DeKuyper introduced its peach schnapps to Americans and Ray Foley created the combo to be a less strong version of a Screwdriver (which is just orange juice and vodka).
Ingredients
- Orange Juice: For an extra delicious Fuzzy Navel, try using fresh squeezed orange juice or at least go with a higher quality store bought variety if possible.
- Peach Schnapps: The schnapps is what adds the alcohol content to the drink and the combo of peach and orange is light yet refreshing.
You’ll want to use a highball glass for this drink or go for a tall tumbler.
Directions
Add ice to your highball glass and pour your orange juice and peach schnapps overtop of the ice.
Stir to combine and serve with an orange slice for garnish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a Fuzzy Navel and a Hairy Navel?
While the fuzzy navel just uses orange juice and peach schnapps, a hairy navel features the addition of vodka to the mix for a stronger proof cocktail.
Tips for Making
- For an extra cold drink, try adding the ingredients to a shaker full of ice and shaking the drink until cold before pouring into a glass filled with ice.
- For a slightly less sweet drink, try swapping out a portion of the peach schnapps for vodka (a hybrid Hairy Navel).
Fuzzy Navel Variations:
- Hairy Navel: A stronger drink which adds vodka to the oj and schnapps.
- Pierced Hairy Navel: Add a splash of grenadine for a touch of cherry flavor.
- Fizzy Fuzzy Navel: Top off your Fuzzy Navel with champagne for some extra fizz.
- Fruity Fuzzy Navel: Add more fruit juices like cranberry or pineapple for another fruit-forward variation.
