It’s been four months since the Kansas City Chiefs won their second consecutive Super Bowl title, but Travis Kelce isn’t done celebrating just yet. On Saturday, the star tight end threw his second annual Kelce Jam presented by Jim Beam for a crowd of 20,000 fans just across the Missouri state line at the Azura Amphitheater.
The outdoor festival saw performances by Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Diplo, DJ Irie, and DJ E-V along with cameos from teammates quarterback Patrick Mahomes and offensive lineman Trey Smith. Yet before the night kicked-off, Kelce walked through the fest grounds in the afternoon, hyping up waves of attendees dressed in Chiefs jerseys and donning Taylor Swift tees (the pop icon was throwing her party in Sweden that day for the Eras tour alas, and wasn’t in attendance). From knocking back shots of Jim Beam bourbon out of a slice of cured ham to stopping by the red carpet for notable quips, Kelce’s enthusiasm for his city proved limitless.
As the sunset slipped into the evening, Kelce took to the stage and shouted to the sold-out crowd: “Are you ready to jam?” As fans roared back in unison, the star player yelled: “Through all my years in [Kansas City], life could be no better than right the fuck now.”
True to those words, Kelce reveled in the night’s celebrations, moving in and out of sets as DJ Irie kept energy levels at a steady high, and at one point, singling along to AC/DC’s rock classic “You Shook Me All Night Long.” During 2 Chainz’s set, Kelce brought out Mahomes, who declared on stage, “We wanted to let you all know that back-to-back [Super Bowls] isn’t good enough,” before promising Kansas City: “You know what were going for? Three of ’em!”
During one of the most memorable moments of the night, Weezy and 2 Chainz performed their 2007 hit “Duffle Bag Boy” — the track Kelce told the Hollywood Reporter in April was his all-time favorite. “I’m pretty excited that I got [Lil Weezy] and 2 Chainz in the building because my favorite song is “Duffle Bag Boy,” he said. “I still listen to it to this day before games and everything.”
Not one to miss out on the party, Kelce joined the Welcome 2 ColleGrove duo, pulling up on stage with a Louis Vuitton duffle and revealing the Vince Lombardi Trophy inside. As the Chiefs player took out fistfuls of cash from the bag, 2 Chainz lifted the trophy in the air as the crowd erupted in cheers.
Elsewere on his set, Weezy delivered hit after hit including “Uproar,” “Drop the World,” “I’m Goin In,” “Lollipop,” “Mrs. Officer,” and “The Motto.” Before departing the stage, the legendary rapper addressed the crowd, and said, “Ladies and gentleman, you have been nothing short of amazing tonight.” He also had a few choice words for the Chiefs champ himself and said, “Trav, I don’t know if you do this shit every year, but if you do, make sure I’m on the motherfucking list every year.” Weezy closed out with the only song fit for the occasion: “A Milli.”
The fest was sponsored by Jim Beam, whose “People Are Good For You” campaign launched last year. To wrap the night, Jim Beam illuminated the sky with a drone night show with an ode to the Chiefs and a display of glasses of bourbon clinking, reflecting the whiskey distiller’s motto that life’s best moments are indeed best enjoyed together.
