Jimmy Kimmel continued to take aim at Elon Musk after the Tesla owner called the late-night host “such an unfunny jerk” earlier this week. On last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel highlighted the conservative reaction to protests against the car brand.
“Tesla’s not having a good week,” Kimmel said. “Today they issued a recall of nearly all 46,000 of their Cybertrucks. That’s the eighth Cybertruck recall since they came out in November of 2023. It’s 15 months—eight recalls. I mentioned last night multiple Teslas were burned at a Tesla facility in Las Vegas. Authorities are now investigating which Teslas were set on fire and which set themselves on fire.”
He continued, “And while no one should be setting anything on fire, ever, people are mad at Elon Musk for randomly and gleefully putting thousands of Americans, including veterans, out of work. But the MAGA gang—which has been very against any kind of violent protest since January 7, was it? 2021? That’s when they started being against it. They are highly upset.”
He then played a series of news clips Fox News and News Nation in which commentators spoke out “left-wing lunatics” for coming after Musk. One said, “If you’re gonna touch a Tesla, go to a dealership, do anything, you better watch out because we’re coming after you.”
Kimmel replied, “Right, right. But if you try to taser a cop on the steps of the Capitol, ‘We’ve got your back, don’t worry about that.’ Everyone just needs to crack open a Bud Light and relax already.”
The host also responded to J.D. Vance calling his show “so unfunny” and the show’s audience “humorless scolds” during an interview. “Who talketh like that?” Kimmel responded. “The archbishop of Canterbury?”
He added, “Sometimes I wonder in what world is the vice president of the United States calling in to a giant-toothed podcast host to bad mouth me and the people who watch this show? The people of this country are frustrated… People are obsessed with having a functioning government. Who would have ever guessed?”
Musk’s comments about Kimmel came after the host reflected on the state of Tesla during his Wednesday night show. Kimmel played a clip of Musk whining about the vandalism on Fox News, claiming he had never done anything to hurt anyone, and said, “Well, let me see if I can explain it for you: when you pull out a chainsaw to celebrate firing thousands of people, they get mad! This poor guy. You do one, maybe two Nazi salutes and everybody gets all bent out of shape.”
Kimmel added, “No one should be setting fires. You could kill somebody, you could hurt somebody. Elon Musk might not care about other people, but decent Americans should.”
