On the last day or so, we were suddenly bombarded with exciting updates, posters, and footage from director Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion. Now, the man at the helm of the third (and possibly final) film in the franchise has revealed the dinosaur villain who will terrorize our heroes in the highly anticipated sequel, the Giganotosaurus, a monster that Trevorrow believes is reason to Has anger.
“If you were brutally murdered 65 million years ago, [you’d] probably [be] pretty crazy about it. The Giganotosaurus who defeated our T-Rex [in the footage], I knew this was mankind’s greatest carnivore, and I really wanted to make sure we hold them back to make sure we have a bad guy for the third movie. We’re introducing a major villain and rivalry in many ways. “
One interesting and rather unexpected plot point that emerged from both the newly revealed footage and the director’s updates is that the beloved Tyrannosaurus Rex will be a central character in Jurassic World: Dominion, and so there seems to be the rivalry between the T-Rex and the Giganotosaurus.
For those of you curious, the Giganotosaurus was a “genus of theropod dinosaurs that lived in the early Cenomaniac of the Late Cretaceous Period about 99.6 to 97 million years ago in what is now Argentina.” This particular species of dinosaur was one of the largest terrestrial carnivores known, but the exact size has been difficult to determine due to the incompleteness of the remains found so far. The name of the Monster Mash-B movie, Giganotosaurus actually means the much less terrifying “Giant Lizard of the South,” so expect that to be left out Jurassic World: Dominion.
Colin Trevorrow Also touched on some of the other new dinosaurs that will appear in the film alongside the warlike tyrannosaur and Giganotosaurus. “The Morus Intrepidus was the one that eats from the Giganotosaurus’ teeth. It was only discovered a few years ago and I’m sure it probably showed up on your feed if you’re following dinosaur stuff,” said the director. “They called it the tiny T-Rex and I was instantly fascinated by it. It’s one of the great joys of making these films. I walked into the office and said, ‘We’re putting this guy in the movie, this is cool!’ It is fun.”
Jurassic World: Dominion the franchise hero Dr. Ian Malcolm, Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Bring Ellie Sattler back into prehistoric combat, with the characters being played again by Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern respectively. While the details of the plot remain under wraps, the final film in the ongoing franchise is Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom, ended with several different species of dinosaurs now unleashed into the world, making it likely that Jurassic World: Dominion will find the legacy characters made to stop the prehistoric beasts and keep the dinosaur rivalry on its side to fight Jurassic World’s Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt.
Trevorrow recently described Domination as “a celebration of the entire franchise” as well as “a culmination of a story that was told”. Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled for release in theaters on June 10, 2022 by Universal Pictures. These comments are courtesy of Slash Film.
