Julia Garner, known for her starring roles in ozark and invent AnnaShe has been offered the role of Madonna in the upcoming biopic about the pop icon. diversity reported on Tuesday (June 7).
The Emmy-winning star landed the opportunity to play Madonna in the Universal Pictures film after a long process that included choreography sessions with the singer’s choreographer, as well as choreography, singing and reading sessions with Madonna herself. Other actresses who have auditioned for the coveted role include Florence Pugh, Odessa Young and Alexa Demie.
Madonna will direct the biopic herself and Amy Pascal will produce the co-written film secretary Author Erin Cressida Wilson. A production schedule and other main cast members are still unknown.
Garner has previously won two Emmys for her role as Ruth Langmore on the Netflix crime drama series ozarkand most recently starred in the streamer’s Shonda Rhimes series invent Anna. On the film side, Garner has appeared in projects and indie fare as is The assistant and granny.
