Britney Spears announced on Sunday (November 6) that despite the nifty moves in her fan-favorite dance videos, she suffers from physical pain from nerve damage on an almost daily basis. “I’m dancing in time now Victoria…yes…nerve damage on the right side of my body…there is no cure but God I guess…nerve damage is sometimes caused by not getting enough oxygen to your brain,” she wrote alongside one Clip of her dancing to Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” while wearing a red crop top and black shorts.
While Spears, 40, didn’t specify what caused the nerve damage or what she described as a brain oxygenation issue, she did try to explain to her followers how it manifests. “Your brain literally shuts down,” she wrote of the dire consequences of not getting enough oxygen to your brain. “This is a place I wasn’t breathing when I was there… Nerve damage causes parts of your body to go numb. I wake up in bed about 3 times a week and my hands are completely numb… the nerves are tiny and it feels like tingling sensations from the right side of my body, it shoots up to my neck and the part that hurts the worst, my temple is on my head…it’s burning and it’s scary…the last 3 years since I left this place I’ve been in a mild unconscious state…I couldn’t take it.”
The good news, Spears said, is that she doesn’t feel any pain when she dances, which could explain why she posts so many dance videos. “It’s like my mind is literally going to a place of my inner child. And even though I don’t move like I used to… I truly believe that believing in it has given me strength,” she wrote. “By the grace of God, I’ve finally found a medication where I can actually feel oxygen flowing to my brain and down my throat…my eyes are more open now and I can hold my head up properly.”
Spears – who is a week away from the one-year anniversary of the end of her restrictive 13-year conservatorship – said hopefully that she’s “doing a lot better, I can breathe…I feel smarter because well, Jesus, I can breathe now…anyway.” I breathe now and can dance to the beat.”
Spears and Elton John recently released a video for the Joel Corry remix of their hit single Hold Me Closer.
