Bobby Berk will no longer be part of the Fab 5. Queer Eye‘s interior designer announced Monday that he’ll be stepping away from the hit Netflix show following the airing of the show’s eighth season in the new year.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I announce that season 8 will be my final season on Queer Eye. It’s not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one,” Berk wrote on Instagram. “Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon.”
Berk shared his gratitude for the “die-hard fans” of the show, which follows “the Fab 5” — Berk alongside culture expert Karamo Brown, food and wine connoisseur Antoni Porowski, grooming slayer Jonathan Van Ness, and fashion guru Tan France — as they help improve folks’ lives.
“The love that I have received from you all over the last 6 years has been absolutely surreal. You have tuned in and been dedicated fans and together we were able to share the healing powers of design,” he wrote. “I learned from you all about kindness, love, and acceptance, and that has changed my life for the better. The way you have embraced me and accepted me for who I am is something that l will truly carry with me for the rest of my life.”
“To all our wonderful, loving, amazing, and brave heroes there is so much I want to say, and so much gratitude I want to express to you all for letting me into your homes and hearts,” he added. “It’s all because of you that I’ve kept going all these years and each and every one of you have changed me for the better. I’m so very proud of all of you!”
The show’s eighth season is set to premiere on January 24, with Netflix confirming to People that the show will go on for a ninth season, taking place in Las Vegas. It’s unclear whether Berk will be replaced.
“We appreciate the heart and dedication Bobby Berk brought to Queer Eye over eight amazing seasons,” ITV Entertainment, Scout Productions and Netflix told the outlet. “He will always be a member of the Fab Five family and we wish him the very best.”
Berk’s costars also shared their reactions to the news, with Brown writing that his “heart is broken” that Berk is leaving. “He is magic in what he designs and how me makes us all feel,” Brown wrote in an Instagram post.
“#foreverthefab5 indeed, and don’t forget it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” wrote Porowski under Berk’s Instagram post. “One of kind & such a star. Love you, Bobby,” added Van Ness.
