Janey Ellis loves Halloween, so much so that she and her husband, Patrick Arlt, decorate their Southern California mid-century modern home from floor to ceiling with vintage Halloween items to create a spooktacular look for the holiday.
Through her blog Atomic Redhead, Ellis writes about vintage fashions, offers tips, guides and reviews, plus shares history lessons about “fun and weird” things she comes across. A self-described maximalist, Ellis began collecting antique finds as a child, thanks in large part to antique dealer parents who encouraged her love of the past and nurtured her eclectic taste.
In many ways, Ellis uses her home as a blank canvas to showcase her collecting interests. And this time of year, those interests turn to Halloween. She and her husband volunteer their time at the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
That volunteerism comes with a few perks, Ellis said, including being able to take home elements of retired pieces from the event. You’ll find some of those items among the many items on display throughout their home.
