These crispy air fried wings are one of my husband Trey’s favorite recipes. He’s been more responsible for making dinner the past few months as I’ve been more focused on breastfeeding our son, which takes a shocking amount of day and night, especially at the beginning. (Don’t complain – just a mom trying to figure out the basics for the first time, ha.) Since Trey used to cook our dinners I had these wings a lot and I have to admit I didn’t think I was a wing person before, though now i’m borderline obsessed!
When I had other wings I often thought they were a little tough or too greasy. I LOVE air fried wings because they’re still super crispy but overcooked more fat without adding any oil from frying or even baking. We do this so often that we upgraded our single air fryer to a double air fryer so we could make about 2 pounds. (approx. 18 wings) at once.
You will see in the recipe card below that these are really very simple. It’s an incredibly easy recipe for how good they are! I’ve also added notes on a small change you might want to make if you have a single bay air fryer versus a double one like ours.
And in case you’re curious, from 2 lbs. The air fryer boiled about 20 grams of fat off the wings. I measured the excess from the batch that I took here to photograph. I love these because they are crispy and super flavorful, but I thought that was pretty amazing too. Hurray for hot air fryers! Ha.
You can use any hot sauce to toss, but we use Frank’s Wing Sauce the most common. Enjoy! xx. Emma
Crunchy Basic Air Fried Wings
a simple and crispy air fried chicken wing recipe
-
2
lb
chicken wing
approx. 18 wings -
2
teaspoon
All-purpose seasoning
like Cavenders -
1/4
Cup
Wing sauce
like Frank
-
When the wings are frozen, thaw. We usually buy wings that are not frozen. If the wings appear excessively wet (more likely if they were frozen), pat them dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
-
Season the wings with an all-purpose spice or salt and pepper.
-
Place the wings in one layer in the slots of the air fryer. It’s okay if the wings touch some, but try not to overlap them.
-
Fry in the air at 400 ° C for 28 minutes.
-
If some of the wings are sticking together, gently pull them apart and place all of the wings in a mixing bowl (I use tongs to remove them from the air fryer). Stir in the wing sauce until it is well covered.
If you’re deep frying in two batches using a single-bay air fryer, deep fry at 390 ° F for 24 minutes.
