If you’ve had a look at Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell’s promotional clip for their upcoming Christmas movie musical Spirited on Monday (November 1st) and something seemed a little off with their voices, there is a very good reason. “I am glad that you see our film musical, Spirited‘ says Reynolds in a faltering, foreign-sounding voice as he settles down with his co-star by a roaring fire.
“Now we want to clear up the rumors that we didn’t sing everything ourselves. This is 100% Ryan and Will,” Ferrell explains to the doubters out there who are wondering how two comedic geniuses who aren’t known for their vocal prowess were brought to top the Apple TV+ original film, which depicts the popular holiday story by Charles Dickens A Christmas song on the head.
Reynolds only asks for a short break for a few seconds, during which he jumps on his walkie-talkie to talk to someone in the recording studio. “Bring yourself together, your lip sync is for st”, the Dead Pool star berates the heavily accented speaker, who clearly does all the talking for the two actors. The camera then cuts to none other than Milli Vanilli singer Fabrice Morvan, best known along with his late partner Rob Pilatus for the lip sync scandal that resulted in the duo being forced to return their Best New Artist Grammy in 1990, after revealing that they didn’t sing in concert or on their hits.
“Sorry Ryan, it’s been a long time since I did that,” Morvan sighs. The full trailer for the film, which also stars Octavia Spencer, was released Wednesday morning (November 2). Spirited hits theaters November 11 and launches November 18 on Apple TV+. In the new production, Reynolds plays Clint Briggs, who turns the tables on the ghost of the Christmas present (Ferrell) in a remix of the Dickens tale of hope and regret that the story is being told from the perspective of the three ghosts for the first time.
Spirited Directed by Sean Anders (Dad is at home) and includes original songs by Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (la la country).
