To celebrate EXO member KAI releasing his latest solo album rovernearly all of his band members got together to watch his new music video light-heartedly.
Reunited for the first time in years – after various members completed their mandatory South Korean military service from 2019 to 2023 – EXO’s Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, DO, Xiumin, Sehun and KAI gathered in eight to sing KAI’s new single to review and gain some insights from their bandmates and tease upcoming EXO music.
Although active with solo albums and special releases, EXO has not released music as a full group (which includes ninth member Lay, currently active in China) since 2018 with their sixth studio album. Don’t mess up my pacewhich became her highest charting entry on the Billboard 200 when it peaked at number 23.
Despite the friendly viewing, KAI admitted his nervousness and how it was his first time watching one of his solo music videos with his members. “I’m so nervous,” he shared. “It feels like an assessment session. It feels really strange.”
However, his bandmates lavished compliments on KAI for his dancing (Xiumin said, “I love this choreography”), his single choice (“The song is so good,” DO commented), and his future success with “Rover” (Chanyeol said: “That should make it to the billboard diagrams”).
After the applause at the end, several EXO members shared additional evaluations.
“First of all, I really like the style of the song,” said youngest member Sehun. “The choreography is good. I also really liked the production. Everyone agrees, right?”
Chen added, “From what we’ve seen of KAI before, we know he’s a great performer, but through this music video, I also got to see more of KAI as a person, like his acting, the whole atmosphere. I think it’s fair to say I could feel him maturing. I could see a more masculine side.”
“I loved it because it seemed like you felt more relaxed,” said Baekhyun, a member of SuperM at KAI. “You left for less. I liked how I could say you did that.”
Chanyeol even suggested the guys “make this an EXO song” and “choose this one as our next song,” a foretaste of their much-anticipated comeback album together. KAI shared that he “actually really mentioned” this suggestion, before Chanyeol dismissed the idea, countering that “only KAI can pull this off”.
Before the video ends, EXO leader Suho shared a heartfelt message asking fans to support KAI’s new music: “We, EXO, will always support him by his side too.”
